Mr. Aument is a highly accomplished top level executive with proven experience managing large, diverse and complex organizations.  He has experience in operations, policy making, new program development and implementation, and public representation.  Mr. Aument served in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for over 33 years.  He is a Principal of the Partnership for Public Service and was a Principal of the Council for Excellence in Government. In 2007, he was a Presidential Rank Award winner for Meritorious Service.  He has received the VA Exceptional Service Award, VA’s highest ranking award, and has also received VA’s Distinguished Career Award.

Mr. Aument is a founding partner with Duty First Consulting, a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).  He provides strategic and tactical guidance to support clients’ business needs, drawing upon the depth and breadth of his experience in senior leadership positions in federal government.  He is highly adept at problem solving and application of technology to support business needs. Prior to the founding of Duty First Consulting, Mr. Aument was a Senior Manager on the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs Healthcare team in BearingPoint’s Public Services Business Unit.

While serving as the Chief Operating Officer of the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), Mr. Aument appeared before Congress and the media.  He attended international veterans’ affairs forums on policy and operations issues. He led in the modernization of VBA’s largest, legacy claims processing and payment system.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Aument served as the VA’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Aument coordinated key Departmental policy initiatives, including providing managerial support for a Blue Ribbon Panel on VA Cardiac Care, guiding a Secretarial Task Force to revamp VA administrative review processes, and creating a Departmental strategic plan for employee education and training.  Mr. Aument played a vital role in the creation and implementation of a governance structure for managing critical policy issues development and implementation within the Department.  He architected a structure for reviewing and approving advisory and assistance contracts of over $.5M, which resulted in first year savings of several million dollars.
